Geometric Failure is a multimedia installation that engages with the ongoing crises in Venezuela and its diaspora through a sensory and spatial experience. It examines the country’s shift from a project of modernity toward a condition of rupture, and how this transformation reverberates across communities in exile.
The work critically engages the legacy of Venezuelan geometric abstraction, once aligned with utopian ideals of progress and democracy, reframing its visual language through instability, fracture, and collapse.
The installation unfolds as an environment where motion and stillness coexist. Suspended metal rods form tilted grids, destabilizing geometric order. Above them, blocks of ice slowly melt, releasing Venezuelan bolívar coins—once markers of economic stability, now nearly worthless. As the coins fall into a shallow pool, occasionally striking the rods, they register the erosion of value and the passage of time.
The rods oscillate between suspension and collapse, producing resonant tones when activated. Tuned to fragments of the Venezuelan national anthem, their vibrations transform a familiar national symbol into sonic dissonance.
Below, a reflective pool anchors the space, suggesting both stillness and passage. Projected images ripple across its surface, distorting geometric forms and architectural references into unstable reflections.
